Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2/3 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 6 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil or olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger grated (or a pinch of ground ginger)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Add the pumpkin puree, honey or maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, coconut aminos, coconut oil or olive oil, molasses, garlic powder, onion powder, fresh ginger, and water to a medium saucepan.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Use a whisk to combine the ingredients thoroughly. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. Stir frequently to avoid burning and ensure an even texture.
  • Add salt to taste. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool. It will continue to thicken as it cools down.

Notes

Coconut aminos is often used as a soy sauce substitute, especially in gluten-free, Paleo, and AIP diets.
