Storage container (if making ahead)
- 12 oz about 3 cups fresh cranberries
- 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- ½ cup bourbon
- ¾ cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 cinnamon stick or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves optional, for warmth
- Pinch of salt
- Garnishes: orange peel curls fresh rosemary sprigs, chopped pecans (optional)
In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, cinnamon stick, ground cloves, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt. Stir well and bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
Once the cranberries start to burst, pour in the bourbon. Stir and let it cook for another 8–10 minutes until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjust sweetness or spice if needed. Remove the cinnamon stick (if used). Allow the sauce to cool—it will thicken further as it rests.
Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with a curl of orange peel, a sprig of rosemary, or a sprinkle of chopped pecans. Serve warm or chilled alongside your holiday meal.
