Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2-3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce minced
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce from the chipotle peppers
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  • Start by heating the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add the smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Sauté for about 1 minute, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  • Stir in the ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, black pepper, and salt until well combined.
  • Mix in the minced chipotle peppers and the adobo sauce. Ensure the peppers are evenly distributed.
  • Pour in the 1/2 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
  • Let the sauce simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should thicken and develop a rich flavor.

Notes

If you find the sauce too thick, you can thin it out with a bit more water or apple cider vinegar. Conversely, if the sauce is too thin, continue simmering until it reaches your desired thickness.
