Cranberry Strawberry Sauce blends tart cranberries with sweet strawberries for a vibrant, fruity twist on a classic. Simmered with sugar and a hint of citrus, it’s perfect as a holiday side, dessert topping, or spread. This easy-to-make sauce adds a burst of flavor and color to any dish.
1½cupsfresh or frozen strawberrieshulled and halved
½cupgranulated sugaradjust to taste
¼cuporange juiceor water
1teaspoonorange zestoptional, but highly recommended
1teaspoonred pepper flakes
½teaspooncinnamon
½teaspoonground cumin
Pinchof salt
Fresh cilantrochopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cranberries, strawberries, orange juice, and sugar. Stir to mix well.
Add the orange zest, red pepper flakes, cinnamon, cumin, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan. Stir to incorporate the spices evenly.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool slightly. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
For a smoother consistency, use an immersion blender directly in the saucepan or transfer the mixture to a blender. Blend until you reach your desired texture.
