Garlic pizza sauce

Garlic pizza sauce is a flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce, made with garlic, butter, olive oil, and seasonings like Parmesan, oregano, and basil. It adds a rich, creamy, and garlicky taste to pizzas, pairing well with white pizzas, chicken, seafood, and vegetable toppings for a delicious twist.

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon
  • Airtight container for storage

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half for a lighter version
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano optional
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for a spicy kick
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter until it sizzles but does not brown.
  • Add the minced garlic and stir continuously for about 30 seconds or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the garlic butter mixture, whisking constantly to form a smooth paste. Cook for about 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  • Slowly pour in the heavy cream and whole milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Increase the heat to medium-low and continue stirring as the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in the Italian seasoning, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. If using, add dried oregano and red pepper flakes for extra flavor. Continue to cook for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce reaches a creamy consistency.
  • Remove from heat and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley or cilantro, if desired.
