Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons gluten-free Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons gluten-free Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon gluten-free liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. This helps to enhance the flavor of the spices.
  • Add the tomato paste and apple cider vinegar to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  • Mix in the gluten-free soy sauce or tamari, honey or maple syrup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Stir until everything is well incorporated.
  • Sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper if using. Stir to blend the spices evenly throughout the sauce.
  • Pour in the water and whisk until the sauce reaches a smooth consistency.
  • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over low heat. Let it cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together.
