Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup gluten-free soy sauce tamari
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup for a vegan option
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds optional
  • 2 green onions finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional for heat
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the gluten-free soy sauce, water, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Whisk thoroughly to blend all the ingredients.
  • Add the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger to the mixture. Stir to incorporate.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves completely.
  • In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water until fully dissolved to create a slurry. Gradually add this slurry to the boiling sauce, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  • If desired, add red pepper flakes for a bit of heat and salt to taste.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat. If using, stir in toasted sesame seeds and finely chopped green onions.

Notes

You can be adapted to be soy-free by using coconut aminos instead of soy sauce, making it suitable for those with soy allergies as well.
