Homemade BBQ sauce is a simple and delicious way to enhance your grilled dishes. Made with common ingredients. It takes just 30 minutes to prepare and cook, and it can be customized to suit your taste preferences.
First, take a medium-sized saucepan and combine ketchup, apple cider or red wine vinegar, and brown sugar. Stir well to dissolve the sugar completely.
Next, add honey, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, black pepper, hot pepper sauce, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper (if you like it spicy). Mix thoroughly to combine all the ingredients.
Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. The sauce will thicken as it cooks.
For an extra layer of richness, stir in 1 tablespoon of butter. This step is optional but highly recommended for a smoother texture and richer taste.
After simmering, taste the sauce and add salt as needed. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
Notes
Add more or less water as needed to thicken or thin the sauce.
