  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce minced (adjust for desired heat level)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes adjust for desired heat level
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce such as Tabasco or Sriracha
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter optional, for richness

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, minced chipotle peppers, minced garlic, smoked paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, hot sauce, and salt.
  • Stir well to ensure all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together beautifully.
  • For an extra layer of richness, you can optionally add butter to the saucepan and stir until melted and fully incorporated.
  • Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency and flavor, remove it from heat and allow it to cool slightly before serving.
