Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot pepper jelly homemade or store-bought
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for extra heat
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the hot pepper jelly, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. Stir until the mixture is well blended.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper if you like it extra spicy. Stir well to incorporate all the flavors.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Cook the sauce, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and the flavors meld together, about 15-20 minutes. Make sure to keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  • Once the sauce has thickened, taste it and add salt and black pepper as needed. Adjust any other seasonings to your preference.

Notes

Using homemade hot pepper jelly adds a personalized, artisanal quality to the sauce.
