Jalapeno BBQ sauce is a spicy and tangy condiment with a kick of heat from jalapeno peppers. It typically combines the sweetness of traditional BBQ sauce with the heat and flavor of jalapenos, resulting in a versatile sauce that pairs well with grilled meats, sandwiches, and more.
3jalapenosfinely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
1small onionfinely chopped
2garlic clovesminced
1tbspsmoked paprika
1tbspchili powder
1tspcumin powder
1tspblack pepper
1tspsalt
1/2tspcayenne pepperoptional, for extra heat
1/2tspliquid smokeoptional, for smoky flavor
Instructions
In a small skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil and sauté the finely chopped jalapeños, onion, and garlic until softened (about 4-5 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and molasses.
Stir in smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper (if using), and liquid smoke (if using). Add the sautéed jalapeños, onion, and garlic.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 25-30 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and flavors are well combined.
For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend the mixture until it reaches your desired consistency. If using a regular blender, allow the mixture to cool slightly before blending.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool. Transfer it to a sterilized glass jar or an airtight container. The sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
