Low Sodium BBQ Sauce is a healthier alternative to traditional BBQ sauces, offering all the rich, smoky, and tangy flavors with significantly less salt. Perfect for those watching their sodium intake, this sauce enhances the taste of grilled meats, vegetables, and more without compromising on flavor.
1/4teaspooncayenne pepperoptional, for a bit of heat
1/2teaspoonliquid smokeoptional, for smoky flavor
1/4cupwater
Instructions
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine no-salt-added ketchup and no-salt-added tomato sauce. Add apple cider vinegar, honey or maple syrup, molasses, and low sodium Dijon mustard.
Stir with garlic powder and onion powder. Add smoked paprika, ground black pepper, and ground cumin. For a bit of heat, add cayenne pepper if desired. If you want a smoky flavor, mix in liquid smoke.
Add water to the saucepan. Whisk everything together until well combined. Place the saucepan over low heat and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to your liking.
Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Transfer the sauce to a clean jar or container.
Notes
To enhance the flavor and nutritional value of the sauce you will always use fresh, organic ingredients whenever possible.
