Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup no-salt-added ketchup
  • 1 cup no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for a bit of heat
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke optional, for smoky flavor
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine no-salt-added ketchup and no-salt-added tomato sauce. Add apple cider vinegar, honey or maple syrup, molasses, and low sodium Dijon mustard.
  • Stir with garlic powder and onion powder. Add smoked paprika, ground black pepper, and ground cumin. For a bit of heat, add cayenne pepper if desired. If you want a smoky flavor, mix in liquid smoke.
  • Add water to the saucepan. Whisk everything together until well combined. Place the saucepan over low heat and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to your liking.
  • Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Transfer the sauce to a clean jar or container.
