- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 3 –4 garlic cloves minced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes or 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste optional, for richer flavor
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes optional, for heat
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Fresh basil or parsley chopped (for garnish)
