Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb 450g shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 3 –4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes or 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste optional, for richer flavor
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes optional, for heat
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Fresh basil or parsley chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft. Stir in the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste (if using). Stir in cinnamon, chili flakes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, until the sauce is thick and fragrant.
  • Toss in the shrimp and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  • Squeeze in the lemon juice and give it a final stir to balance the flavors.
  • Sprinkle with chopped fresh basil or parsley. Serve hot over rice, pasta, or crusty bread.
