- 2 cups ketchup
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar This gives the sauce its tangy flavor
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste
- Salt to taste
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, molasses, Dijon mustard, and brown sugar. Stir frequently for 2 to 3 minutes. Keep stirring so that you don’t burn the sugars.
Introduce Worcestershire sauce, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of salt.
Whisk the mixture thoroughly to ensure all ingredients meld together. This is about an additional 3 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the garlic, as it will turn bitter.
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat. Till it boils, keep stirring occasionally to avoid sticking.
Sample the sauce and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. Add more salt, sugar, or spice if needed.
Remove from the heat, stir in the espresso, and then add the brisket drippings to taste. Let cool, then transfer to a jar, bottle, squeeze bottle, or however you want to store it. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
Special Note
Feel free to store the Franklin BBQ Sauce in the refrigerator for up to three weeks. The flavors will continue to develop, making it even more irresistible over time.
