  • Blender or food processor (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce minced (adjust for desired heat level)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes adjust for desired heat level
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce such as Tabasco or Sriracha
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter optional, for richness

Instructions

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, minced chipotle peppers, minced garlic, smoked paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, hot sauce, and salt.
  • Stir well to ensure all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together beautifully.

  • Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency and flavor, remove it from heat and allow it to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Be cautious when handling hot peppers and spices, as they can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling them, and avoid touching your face.
