1/4teaspooncayenne pepperoptional for a bit of heat
1tablespoonolive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Start by zesting one orange and setting the zest aside. Squeeze the orange juice until you have one cup of freshly squeezed juice.
In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
Add the minced garlic to the saucepan and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
Pour in the freshly squeezed orange juice, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and honey. Stir to combine.
Mix in the zest of orange, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, onion powder, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.
Taste the sauce and season with salt and black pepper as needed.
Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool. Transfer the sauce to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
Notes
Choose ripe, juicy oranges for the freshest flavor. Look for oranges with vibrant, fragrant peels, as they will infuse the sauce with the most citrusy zest.
